Application: Iron pyrites are used primarily for making additions to gray and malleable irons melted in electric furnaces. In the case of gray iron, the normal sulfur level should be in the range of 0.08-0.12. Sulfur neutralizes the carbide stabilizing influence of manganese. The presence of sulfur in the nominal range is also a very important factor for making all silicon base inoculants effective chill reducers.
